Menopause Care in South Bend

Ten to fifteen years is too long to be told it's normal.

Technically, menopause is a single day: twelve months after your last period. The perimenopausal transition leading up to it runs ten to fifteen years, and that is where most of the difficulty lives.

Hot flashes, night sweats, sleep that stopped working, mood changes, vaginal dryness, pain with sex, brain fog. These are treatable, and being told to wait it out is not a treatment plan.

Most people are candidates for hormone therapy — including a good number who have been told otherwise because of a family cancer history. What matters is your situation, not the average one.

Symptoms we help with

Common reasons to book:

  • Hot flashes and night sweats
  • Sleep that stopped working
  • Mood changes, irritability, anxiety
  • Vaginal dryness and pain with intercourse
  • Low libido
  • Brain fog and difficulty concentrating
  • Weight changes that will not respond to what used to work
  • Irregular or changing cycles

What treatment looks like

The first visit is about establishing what is going on. That often includes hormone testing, sometimes a comprehensive hormone panel, and a proper conversation rather than a symptom checklist.

From there: hormone therapy where it fits, targeted treatment for specific symptoms, and adjustments to lifestyle, nutrition and sleep that are worth making. It is rarely one intervention.

Two symptoms worth raising even if you would rather not: dryness and pain during sex. They are the least likely to be mentioned and among the most treatable.

Questions we get asked

Am I too young for this?
Perimenopause commonly starts in the early forties and can start in the thirties. If your symptoms fit, your age is not a reason to dismiss it.
Is hormone therapy safe?
For most patients, yes — and the risks are more nuanced than the headlines from twenty years ago suggested. We go through your specific history, including any family cancer history, before recommending anything.
Do I need hormone testing first?
Often it helps, particularly a comprehensive panel, which shows hormone metabolites rather than a single point-in-time level. Sometimes symptoms alone are enough to start.
My last doctor said this was normal.
Common and untreatable are different things. You are allowed to want it treated.
